Struggling with housing – April 2022 – Grace & Bill

Grace, 72 years old, lived in a car in a local car park with her 50 year old son, Bill, for six months. Grace and Bill lost their home when they were evicted for getting behind with the rent, and for hoarding. They refused an offer of 28 days temporary accommodation because they wanted to return to their home.

Bill’s leg became infected while he was living in the car. Neami National, a community organisation that provides mental health and wellbeing services, helped Bill and Grace. Bill was hospitalised for 3 months and Grace accepted temporary housing so Bill could return to a healthy environment.
